We’re Not Out of the Woods

With these midterm election results, it would be nice to be able to say the fever had broken. And there’s real reason to celebrate. Voters took both chambers of Congress out of Republican hands and gave the incoming Congress the power to investigate this administration and check its abuses.

But tens of millions of Americans still voted to keep Republicans in Congress. Whatever misgivings those voters may have had about Trump’s policies, those concerns weren’t enough to make them vote for a Congress that would rein him in. Republicans lost a lot of ground and still drew roughly 43 percent of the House vote. That’s a lot of support retained.

The willingness to look away from corruption, the scapegoating of immigrants, and white nationalism are still forces in Republican party. The number of Pennsylvania police agencies signing up to help ICE enforce federal immigration law has nearly doubled in the last six months. Today 146 local agencies have inked formal agreements to assist U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in its work… up from 78 in April, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer: Pa. police are rushing to help ICE with immigration enforcement

This election gave us more power to confront the regime. Now we have to make sure Congress uses it.

Trump is good at fooling people and so far he’s fooling some of the people every time.
