Be Hopeful, But Not Complacent
On Presidents’ Day 2026, we have every reason to be hopeful, but no reason to be complacent. -Robert Hubbell
This sentence sums up where we are: positive things are happening AND we need to keep our foot on the gas! Read on for Your Calls on protecting Voting Rights, calling out Senator Fetterman for his betrayals, helping victims of Human Trafficking, ending the scourge of ICE Detention Centers, and supporting the fight against dangerous Climate Change reversals by the Trump administration.
The only thing more powerful than hate is love
This week the Super Bowl made political headlines. From Bad Bunny’s inspired halftime performance, which showed us what a united America can look like, to an ad featuring video images of redacted Epstein abuse survivors, politics was on the big screen during primetime. It’s time to stay tuned in to ways YOU can make a difference in the fight for our democracy! Read on and choose one or more actions to take this week - it’s Your Call.
Defend the Vote. Demand the Truth. Practice Resistance.
As our attention is drawn to the horror of the Department of Homeland Security terrorizing citizens and immigrants alike, the current administration is working behind the scenes to make sure we don’t have free and fair elections in November. They are also hoping we don’t notice the damning information coming out from the Epstein Files and the hundreds of other assaults on our Democracy that are happening. Also, It's Black History Month, yet in Philadelphia, factual displays about those enslaved by George and Martha Washington have been pried out of place with crowbars. The city of Philadelphia has challenged the removal of the panels in court. Go Philly!!!
The good news is, from regular citizens to celebrities, Americans are standing up. Check out Bruce Springsteen’s new song and video for Minneapolis. Then, it’s Your Call to do one or more of these Calls to Action
Defund DHS, Defend Democracy
The Tipping Point
This week we mourn the horrific murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were US citizens, Minneapolis residents, and peaceful protestors unlawfully gunned down by ICE. They join the 32 others killed by ICE agents in 2025. Now, more than ever, we must stand in solidarity with democracy, our constitution, human rights and basic decency, and TAKE ACTION. WE are the majority as evidenced by the latest presidential approval poll, and its Your Call to make your voice heard!
Is Fetterman Listening to his Wife?
This email is an urgent request to call Senator John Fetterman about the upcoming Senate vote on ICE appropriations. We don't know when the vote is happening so we're sending this out today. Use this link from 5 Calls to call and ask for ALL of the items on the list (even though it says to "choose 1-3 options").
Stop the Crazy Violence!
All eyes are on Minnesota, Greenland and Congress this week, as ICE continues its lawless reign, Congress gets ready to vote on funding for ICE and Trump prepares to invade Greenland. It’s Your Call…how are you going to stand up this week?
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” —Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
End the ICE Reign of Terror
In 2025, 32 people were killed in ICE custody, making it the agency’s deadliest year in 2 decades. We watched as ICE disappeared people, violated due process, and terrorized our communities. On January 7, 2026 these atrocities culminated in the fatal shooting of 37-year-old mother and U.S. citizen Renee Good by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, MN. Over the weekend 1000s of peaceful protests nationwide signaled that ICE brutality can not continue in our communities. Thank you to the 200+ neighbors who braved the weather to stand with DAL organizers at our local rally this weekend.
This week, it’s Your Call which of these Calls to Action you do! We are at a crossroads and it will take all of us to stop this.
Protest Latin America Attacks
The new year began with our authoritarian government openly defying the Constitution and international law by seizing Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife and transporting them to New York City to face alleged narco-terrorism charges. While the United States’ broader role in Venezuela—beyond oil interests—remains unclear, Trump has signaled his intent to pursue similar military-backed actions in other Latin American countries. If you have not yet contacted your representatives to demand robust Congressional oversight of any additional war operations, please click here and take action now!
War Is Not the Answer
Raise your voice against Trump’s illegal war on Venezuela. Listen to Heather Cox Richardson's analysis on the implications of Maduro’s capture, read about Senator Tim Kaine's efforts to force a vote to require congressional approval for further attacks, then use this 5 Calls script(insert link) to pressure our representatives to reconvene Congress and put a stop to these dangerous acts of war.
